I Can Do Anything Good

Three weeks ago, I said I was going to start training for a 5k taking place on February 25th. Since then I have run exactly 0 miles. Yes, 0. I have the mehs about running and about myself in general. Every woman goes through the “I hate my hair/thighs/face/butt/whatever” blues and right now I’m suffering from it all – except the hair because, quite frankly, my hair is quite awesome.

I have been paying attention to the social networks lately and everywhere I turn it seems like one female friend or another is lamenting some minor fault in herself. A fault so minor that most of us wouldn’t notice f she hadn’t pointed it out. I started wondering when we go from happy little girls to overly self-critical women.

I saw this video for the first time about a year ago and it made me grin so hard I thought my face would break. Jessica is one self confident little girl. Ladies, we all need to regain our inner Jessica.

I think I’ll start today because, like Jessica, I can do anything good.

I would like to recommend a book to you, Julie Klam’s “Please Excuse My Daughter”

Somewhere in Chapter 6 “Pu! Pu! Pu! (Spit Three Times)” she has a little conversation with herself and it went like this:

One June morning I was heading into work on the kind of day that is featured in hair-care commercials. It was a couple of months into my new job at Pop-Up and my new relationship with Paul, and I stopped and took stock. Everything Was Perfect. I felt slightly dizzy. I Loved my boyfriend, my job, my dog, even my hair. I stopped and looked ahead toward Times Square ant thought, “Remember this time, for it may not last forever.”

Made me think of my Plurky Fuckers at the time, and you post brought it back to mind.
