Water…Agua…Wasser

I have a confession to make. I don’t drink nearly enough water. There, I said it. I am a Diet Coke fiend. It is my life’s blood, but alas too much of a good thing is just that….too much. I was scrolling through the galactic interwebs the other day and stumbled across a blog post about a 30 day water challenge.

Can I find it again to give the writer some linky love? No. I can find 345823412345 other posts about water challenges, but not the awesome one I read. Crap. Just so we’re clear, I’m not talking about a water challenge involving gardening, cleaning and purifying water, washing cars, doing laundry, or anything else horrible and boring.

This challenge is about drinking more water. 100 oh zees per day for 30 days. I drink at least 100 ounces of fluid a day, but it’s mostly coffee, coffee, and coffee with a diet coke chaser.  I thought about it, thought about it some more, and yesterday when I woke up I decided to do it.

At my daily Starbucks stop, I got a Very Berry Refresher (they’re fantastic, try one) instead of my usual nonfat caramel macchiato. When I was done, I refilled my trenta cup with fresh, cool water over the berries from the refresher.

Drink

Refill

Repeat

I ended up drinking three 30 ounce cups of water before I left for the day. I wasn’t hungry – duh, my stomach was sloshing around like a kiddie pool full of toddlers. I was more alert, but I’m pretty sure that’s only because it’s hard to feel tired when you’re running to the bathroom every 4.2 minutes.

One day down, 29 to go. They say it takes 21 days to make a habit. If that’s true, by February 7th I should be firmly ensconced in my new water drinking lifestyle. February 8th, I’ll find a new healthy habit to add to my routine. Perhaps I’ll get a pedometer so I can count how many steps I walk back and forth from my office to the bathroom every day.

*giggle snort* on the pedometer comment.
I suck at drinking water. Like suck. I hate it. I hate that there’s no flavor, and considering my sensitivity to aspartame, not a lot of things I can do to add some flavor to it [without adding an insane price to it, because $15-20 for 24-bottles of water is already insane but tap water here tastes like copper, feet, and smells like butt, YAY]

I’m a water drinker from my Weight Watcher days, it’s about the only thing left over from those days.

I’m totally digging my new Fitbit One. Tracks sleep too. Which I need to work on as well. And I just consider Diet Doctor Pepper to be water so I drink plenty of “water.”

Well, I think you know that I don’t miss diet beverages anymore, and I feel so much better since kicking the habit … no more migraines alone was worth it. When I crave a little carbonation, I have sparkling water. You can do it.

Hi there! Came over through SITS and just wanted to chime in. I used to drink TONS of Diet Coke. Now I’m an avid water drinker…I don’t even know when it started, but I know that if I don’t have a giant cup of water available for me at all times something just feels wrong. Once you start drinking lots of water it makes you crave more water. Funny, huh? Best of luck with your challenge!
