Flashback Friday Redux

Hmmm…about that whole Blog365 thing…I started about a week early, so we’re going to use those days as substitutes for not posting much this week. What? My blog, my rules.

On to today’s topic. It’s Flashback Friday again, y’all! I scanned all of my childhood pictures into iPhoto so I could keep this up for months. MONTHS. Possibly years, but we’ll start with months.

Today’s photo is brought to you by my love of animals. Without further ado, I give you the first pet I ever bought with my own hard earned (or found) money….my cat, Jeremy!

Look at that grin. Obviously, I did not know I was sticking my finger in the poor cat’s eye. Please take note of the swanky couch. Plaid was all the rage in 1978. Why am I so happy about that little, orange ball of fur? I bought and paid for him myself. He cost me a whole penny.

One bright, spring day (I really have no idea. It could have been November, but since I’m rocking short shorts in the picture we’ll pretend it was May) we went to visit our friends, the Metzers. Their daughters, Kim and Kirstie, and I went to the neighbor’s house to check out the litter of kittens her cat had gifted to the family. Of course I wanted one IMMEDIATELY and when the neighbor girl told me they were being sold for the rock bottom price of one shiny piece of copper bearing Honest Abe’s likeness, she had herself a deal.

Kim, Kirstie, and I marched back to their house with me carrying the squirming kitten. Upon seeing my prize, my dad and I had the following conversation.

Dad: What’s that?

Me: My new kitten!

Dad: I don’t think so. Take him back.

Me: No.

Dad: Excuse me? Take him back.

Me: No. I paid for him with my own money, so he’s mine.

Long story short, the kitten came home with me. Heh. Jeremy was the first in a long line of bedgraggled, wayward creatures that would find their way home with me over the years. The latest is our crazy eyed cat, Sundae Mondae. I’m sure she won’t be the last.
